About The Role:

The Audio Operator/Offstage Announcer is responsible for delivering the Journey Dance Competition sonic experience. This role will be in control of the vibe, energy, and pace of the event. Energy and enthusiasm on the microphone must be captivating and engaging, as this position will announce every routine as dancers enter the stage, as well as successfully play each routine’s pre-assigned music. This role is responsible for operating the audio equipment while seamlessly transitioning between routine music and company-provided filler music. The Audio Operator/Offstage Announcer will work closest with our Backstage Managers to ensure a smooth-running performance order. In this position, there will be interaction with Studio Directors and Teachers, as needed. This position requires exceptional amounts of energy, enthusiasm, and confidence on the microphone. This position is for high-energy individuals who have a passion for sound and thrive in a live-event setting. Work Details:

  • Seasonal employment with Journey Dance Competition 2025 Tour, January – June
  • Must be available for Mandatory Team Training; Virtual 1/4/25, In-Person 1/17/25-1/19/25
  • Must be willing to travel by road or air
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must be based on the East Coast
  • Must be available from Friday AM to Sunday PM for travel
  • Events may require Thursday PM to Monday AM travel
  • Travel from a specified meeting point or airport will be required
  • Minimum commitment 6 events or more
  • Paid training, travel, double occupancy lodging, and event meals
  • Ability to drive is a plus
  • Official government ID required
  • Background check required

Requirements:

What Winning Looks Like:

  • Load-in and load-out of production equipment, and set up and break down your station
  • Announce routines from the audio board (no stage time required)
  • Control audio board levels for all channels: microphone, iPad, and laptop
  • Fill any dead air of the show with company-provided music
  • Communicate with the Backstage Managers to confirm the performance order
  • Communicate with Studio Directors and Teachers
  • Troubleshoot any problems that arise
  • Attend to all other duties assigned by the Event Director(s), as needed

Skills Needed to Win:

  • Enthusiastic vocal/announcing skills
  • Excellent reading and public speaking skills, as well as improvisational skills
  • Strong audio technical background
  • Familiarity with live sound level monitoring
  • Capable of sitting for extended periods. Weekend work typically ranges from 30 to 40 hours
  • Capable of lifting a minimum of 30 lbs to 50 lbs
  • Dance/ Entertainment industry background is a plus but not required
  • Previous broadcasting experience is not a requirement, but it is definitely a benefit
