Announcer, Emcee, Host, Manager for Traveling Animal Attraction
Website AARacing_Pigs All-Alaskan Racing Pigs
Are you a rockstar at heart? Can you handle life on the road? Does adventure and new experience excite you? Are you a leader that can independently manage a travelling unit of an enterprise? Do you want to manage or own the whole business eventually? This might be it.
Read that paragraph again. Soak it in and mull it over. Make sure this is you.
Does this seem too good? We are amused that people suspect this can’t be real! So, Google us. Pause here and do that right now. The internet has plenty of B.S., but the huge number of things you see should convince you that we didn’t make it all up. Click “News”, “Images”, “Videos” and we should show up in all of them. Please satisfy yourself that this is real so you can focus on what you are reading and decide if you have the stuff. No sense wasting anyone’s time.
We travel the west coast states performing racing pig shows and kids pedal tractor pull shows. Your job will be to take loving care of the little piggies, perform the shows, make the fans happy, drive the motorhome, pull the pigs’ luxury trailer, set up the show equipment, sell merchandise after the show, and have fun! You will also be internet famous, but that is just a side benefit.
This is as fun as work gets, and this could be you.
Important:
- You will live on the road. No trips home on weekends. You are gone for the full season. You will have plenty of time off, but no time to go home. (Make your friends visit you. They’ll be envious.)
- You will do physical work. The two-person team sets up the show and takes down the show for each event. You will work up a sweat. It’s warm in the summer, so you will work up a sweat performing the shows as well. You will get a modest amount of physical activity even on the least physical days.
- You will have real responsibilities. You will handle cash and must account for it. You will have animals to care for. You will have crowds up to 1500 people cheering and laughing with you. You must show up and be on timeevery day and every show.
- If you are up to this challenge the rewards are many.
Some basics:
- You will work closely with animals. You must touch, pet, scratch, and play with the little pigs every day. You will also shovel and hose out their housing every day. They deserve your attention, respect, affection, observation, and personal care. Pigs. Love. Every day. Not optional.
- You announce for up to 1500 people and be the front person for the pigs and pedal pulls — The Golden Voice!
- Perform from 3 to 6 shows each day, 20 minutes per show.
- Perform shows from 1 to 7 days per week depending on the event.
- Sell merchandise after each show, handle money, run credit card transactions, and keep records of daily sales and expenses.
- Share a motorhome with another team member. A usual team has two announcers.
- Drive the motorhome and pull a trailer, about 55-feet of vehicle total.
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
- Work outdoors, in heat or after dark, setting up and staying busy for 6-8 hours for each set up. (It gets faster as you learn the process.)
- Interact with a variety of people everyday. Be professional, be polite, be the face of the company.
- Once you start working you will be “on the road” almost continuously until September or October.
- Jobs will be filled starting in February and continuing into August.
- Pets are not compatible with this job.
- Smoking/Vaping is prohibited on most event sites and in our motorhomes. Our motorhomes will be parked on the event site for the duration of the event.
Are you, or can you become, a performer?
This is the REAL THING, and it is all about your attitude. If you see yourself doing this and are willing to work at it, you can do it! You do not need experience as a performer, just the desire to become one. If you are a performer you have a head start.
You will have live audiences of all sizes. Sometimes 50, sometimes 1500. We will give you a script, coach and direct you in delivering it, and then you make the fans laugh. Can you do that?
Can you do physical work, outdoors, for 6-8 hours? You’ll lift and carry up to 40 lbs. You’ll have to stay busy. It’s only once a week or once a month, but it must be done. Can you do that?
All-Alaskan Racing Pigs travels the west-coast states performing at fairs, festivals, and other public and private events. Event producers and fans love this show. Most of our clients have had us return for at least a decade, many for more than two decades, a bunch for over 30 years. The show is that good. Can you keep the run going?
Team members run the show while it is on the road. All animal-care and business systems, scripts, checklists, and instructions are ready to go. We spend several weeks training you. You need only be willing to work hard for several hours a day, have a positive and fun attitude, and desire to make fans smile and cheer every week.
To do that you must live and work well with your co-workers. No drama allowed. Be kind, be respectful, clean up after yourself (be respectful,) and do more than your share of the work, happily.
You will do physical work during set up and tear down, and sometimes it will be hot. You will also perform to hundreds or thousands of cheering fans at each show. Some days are long, most are short. You must be flexible, adaptive, hard-working, and smart. This is show-business, and the rewards equal the level of performance. Spoiler Alert: You will never have a more fun job the rest of your life. You’ll have stories to tell!
You will have to learn a 20-minute script word-for-word. At first that is your script, but after you have that down we will work with you to add new material and make the show fit your style and personality.
Our animal athletes deserve and get special care. Their living quarters are First-Class, and the care you give them must be too. We will get you up to speed on all aspects. Livestock experience not required. Love of animals and respect for the responsibility of owning an animal are required. There is no compromising on animal care.
This job requires constant travel. You can live anywhere and do this, because during the season you won’t be home much, if at all. If you wish, you can stop paying rent, and put even more money in the bank. Your home becomes the events you work at. Your family becomes the people who make the event, and the people you meet at the shows. You will see many of the same people over the course of the season — entertainers, vendors, security people, trades people, coordinators, all working the same events and running across each other many times during the year. Generally, the location changes every two weeks, but sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly. You will live in (and drive) a comfortable motorhome, visit beautiful communities on the west coast, and make people happy every day.
Being adaptable is key, no two shows are the same and no two crowds are the same. The expectation is that you will work alongside your teammates to assess various situations as needed and adapt. We are small teams not a business conglomerate, so communication is easy and vital. Everything flows smoother when everyone is on the same page. If you see a problem, an opportunity, or you believe something is off, then politely say so.
There is no profile for who can be successful at this job. If you have performing and management skills you have an advantage, but people of all colors, genders, and other identities have excelled at this. Teenagers, retired people, all ages in between have been stars. Existing skills matter much less than a desire to do it well. If you are coachable and willing to work at it, we can make you good at this. Many of our announcers never performed in front of a live crowd before doing this gig. We know how to help you succeed. Plainly stated: We welcome everyone who is a good performer, employee, and teammate.
Announcers earn a salary, bonus, and commission. First-year employees will earn at least $4,100 per month in total for all three and can make up to $6,250 per month total if they work a full season and do good work. We want people who are worth the top end. The work can be seasonal or year-round. We especially look for employees who want to work the off-season in recruiting, marketing, video production, social media and web development, equipment maintenance and repair, show development, and “whatever needs to be done.” Year-round employees enjoy extra-generous paid vacation breaks.
Go to www.pigrace.com and check out our website. It is being refined for the new season, so it will change between visits, but you will see plenty of info about us. Google us and you will get pages and pages. YouTube has plenty of videos.
